That makes me think they didn't use the same scale for each state. I bet the tool they were using to produce these used the highest high and lowest low as the range for a single state. To correctly produce a small multiple, it would have to use the lowest low across all states and highest high across all states for every state. That would have been easier to catch had they included some actual values in the chart. I made some assumptions I shouldn't have made.

Jack L. The visualization suggests that there's a greater average daily temperature difference in Hawaii than Colorado, but the reverse is true. The difference in Hawaii is typically 10-15° F, but in Colorado the difference between the daily high and low is generally 20-30F, and sometimes more.

Or compare Texas and Vermont. Vermont looks hotter than Texas, but the reverse is true.

Re: DesignAday — Paywalled

I guess that would let me keep a copy after dropping the subscription, but I'd still need the subscription to get them in the first place. Sure, they usually look nicer, but now you can't figure out what they do without clicking. And sometimes not even after.

I feel checkboxes and radioboxes are the worst in this regard. Lots of radioboxes that show checkboxes and vice-versa...

Re: DesignAday — My Magic Band

We were in Disney World a couple weeks ago as well. Good design and processes should have prevented it, but didn't. So how do we prevent it from happening again? Unless it was cropped out, it also doesn't seem to specify what format to enter it in. Ideally, it should be able to deal with or without dashes formats.

Re: DesignAday — Pumpkin Innovation

Please tell me you posted some photographs.
